Construction of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail (Zhuhai Section) will be started soon. The whole rail is 142 km long, involving the investment of RMB 18.2 billion. There will be 21 stations along the rail. Zhuhai Section measures 21 km long and will be completed in 2009. Trains can travel at a maximum speed of 200km per hour. It will play an important role in the economic and social development in the entire Pan-Pearl River Delta after the construction is finished.
According to the remarks of principals from Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail Ltd., since the construction of Fenghuang Mountain Tunnel, the key project of Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail (Zhuhai Section) was started in Dec. 28 last year to June this year, the construction company has finished some work such as piling, building bridges and tunnels and bidding of electricity circuits, etc. The construction will be started soon; construction units such as China Rail 8 Group Ltd. and China Rail 12 Group have been ready to start the project within the border of Zhuhai.
As it is known, compared with similar transportation projects and in view of the special geographic status of Pear River Delta and Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail is designed to have a station around every 5km. The rail is thus a real intercity rail, a circuitry of public transport and environmental protection.
